Women’s Self Defence classes

The Self-Defence and marital arts fundaments classes are led by coach Kitty who is certified under the Combat Coach program (World Combat Association) in Self Protection under renowned coaches Iain Abernethy and Peter Consterdine.

The classes are open to women of mixed abilities: you may have some martial arts experience or non-whatsoever.  Both are very welcome!

Sessions are 1 hour long.  You’ll learn personal safety awareness, what your legal rights are using self-defence in the UK as well as the physical skills you need to protect yourself.  You’ll be guided through simple and effective self-defence techniques and live scenario drills in a safe environment.

Self-defence and martial arts fundamentals classes will give you a strong martial foundation as well as a clear understanding of the nature of violent crime and the knowledge you need to avoid dangerous situations.  We will help you gain confidence in your daily life as you work through our training program as well as increasing your overall fitness and strength.   Our coaching allows everyone to learn at their own pace whilst also progressing.

So come along to a free trial and meet other people in your local community whilst learning this empowering skill.

Self DefEnce

Self Defence classes near Brockwell Park

I’m new to any martial arts training, can I join?

Yes! If you have no previous experience you are going to learn the fundamentals of martial arts, so you have a foundation of martial knowledge to build upon.  These fundamentals include, strikes (punches, palm strikes, elbows, kicks, knees), stand up clinch, takedowns and the basics of floor fighting. You will also learn simple yet effective footwork, and how to generate striking power. All at your own pace.

I’ve got martial arts training experience, is this class for me?

Yes. You are going to work your fundamentals of striking to include punches, palm strikes, elbows, kicks, knees. You’ll work power generation with and without a preload. What you need to know in the clinch in a self-defence context. What throws are most effective and least risky. What to do if you end up on the floor and multiple opponents.

Everyone will learn…

You will learn both the soft skills (your preparation) and the physical skills of self-defence to also include pre-emptive strikes, live-scenario drills and drills to help train your fight, flight or freeze response to fear.

What will I gain from these classes?

You will know what to do if the worst should happen and you find yourself in a self-defence situation.  We will teach you how to avoid and also how to fight.  What works, what doesn’t.

These sessions are also a great way to meet new people in your local community, whilst empowering yourself. Self-defence can be a gritty subject to cover, so we always make sure we keep things light and have some fun on the way, but we also make sure you have realistic expectations of what real-life non-consensual violence really is.
